Description: This workshop is intended to allow participants to experience extensive bat handling. Participants will learn how to extract bats from different kinds of mist nets, harp traps, and other means. Join bat biologist Dr. Dave Johnston and mammalogist Fiona Reid in Costa Rica, home to one tenth of the over 1,400 bat species in the world. We’ll spend two days in the Monteverde area, a cloud forest (4,000-5,000 feet in elevation); and four days in the Rio Claro area, a lowland rainforest; and end the trip in the unique Osa Peninsula, where we’ll have a chance to encounter rare endemic species. We expect to catch and release hundreds of bats across as many as 50 species over the course of the 9-day workshop. More information. Register here
